The Best Ways To Learn The Russian Language While You Study

The Best Ways To Learn The Russian Language While You Study Student Ideas To Immerse Yourself In Russian Culture ChaptersThe Russian Education SystemThe Benefits To A Russian Higher Education For International Students:Checklist To Studying In Russia!Essential Tips Prior To Going To Study In Russia.Studying In Russia: How to Choose Your University? How To Obtain A Russian Student Visa?Student Housing In Russia: The Homestay OptionWant to learn to speak Russian? Do you have Russian in your blood, family living in Russia or perhaps a special friend who is a Russian native? Or perhaps you just love languages and feel that learning Russian is a good next challenge for you?The best way to learn Russian is with immersion, this is true of the languages of different countries and is no different for Russian. But how do you take the leap and take yourself off to this fascinating and very different country? Well, that all depends on your age and level of study.Younger Students In RussiaIf a young student travelling with your family then you will likely seek information about enrolling at a school or colle ge in the area which you are moving to. As in most large cities, you’ll be sure to find international schools that can cater to your learning needs as a foreigner with little or no knowledge of the lingo. Yet, however daunting it may be, sometimes getting thrown in at the deep end can really speed up the learning process so don’t rule out a Russian school... if they have the means and the will to take on new non-Russian speaking pupil. If you are the parent of children, about to take them out of their schools and on a Russian adventure, then note that a six-year-old will probably be more adaptable than say a twelve-year-old. The younger the child, the more confidence and the fewer inhibitions they have (in most cases) which means that they are able to practice and pick up the language much faster.Adult Learners In RussiaIf you want to study in Russia whether in a university, with a host family or as part of an exchange program. Russian is always easier to learn if you are in cont act with the locals, especially if you are living in Russia and are surrounded by Cyrillic.Russia is a country that fascinates as much as it intrigues. To realise your dream of foreign study, you must apply to the university, be accepted, get your student visa, find your living accommodation, book your flights, move to Russia and of course make sure that you have paid for your studies. If you do not have eligibility for internships or scholarships, then you need to convert your money to spend in the local currency rubles. So the challenges that can be faced while in the University application stages, language learning stage and student visa application stages can take some time. But generally, it does not really put many people off as the benefits of studying in Russia are so high.  Especially as Russia welcomes more and more foreign students each year.Stay in the home of a local Russian family. Compulsory schooling starts aged six and runs for 11 years, after which students can choose to remain in an academic school, take vocational training or leave education entirely.”When it comes to the structure of their day, kids can expect to start school at 8am and finish at 1 or 2pm. Students usually attend class 5 days a week, although some schools require extra study on Saturdays (much like in the UK with some boarding schools). A typical class lasts 40 to 45 minutes with a 5 to 15-minute break in between sessions. The Benefits To A Russian Higher Education For International Students:The Cost To StudyRussia is one of the cheapest places in the world to study at around £4,500 per year (research by FAIRFAX currency exchange). This means that international students can acquire prestigious diplomas for a fraction of the price of a course in their hometown. But is this enough of an incentive to pack your bags and move to a different country? Some would say, definitely yes!The tuition fees at Russian universities are the lowest in the whole of Europe, meanwhile, the quality of education is on par.Full-time international students are offered the same variety of benefits  as Russian students, which is quite astonishing when you consider that some l andmarks and attractions charge tourists more (sometimes even double the price of a local person’s ticket) to enter. Incidentally, some institutions encourage talented overseas students to come and study their curriculum, offering further discounts on tuition fees. This, of course, makes sense because it means that the best students are helping to raise their profile as prestigious places to study. When enrolling on a Bachelor’s degree in Russia, you can expect to pay around 180,000-200,000 Rubles (the equivalent of approximately £2,200-2,500) per year. You can then follow this up with a specialist degree (around 200k Rubles), normally after five years of relevant education, or a Master’s degree programme (costing on average 220-240 thousand Rubles).Postgraduate study also comes in at around 240-260k Rubles per annum. The Range Of CoursesDon’t be fooled into thinking that you have limited choice when it comes to studying in Russia. They have a huge number of reputable univers ities (keep reading to discover more on this) as well as a range of subjects on offer at all levels of study: undergrad, postgrad, etc...You can choose to study Russian, sign up for a Bachelor or BA degree with honours, a doctorate, a masters degree program, attend specialized training or you can enroll on a professional training course in Russia. The Number Of EstablishmentsThere are approximately 800 universities across the country from Moscow and Saint Petersburg to Vladivostok, let’s take a look a total some of the top establishments.First off, prospective students should know that Russia has one of the fastest growing economies in the world and is keen to internationalise its education system, this investing in the development of university curriculums and offering financial support to certain overseas pupils.According to the Top Universities website:”There are 24  universities in Russia  featured within the  QS World University Rankings ® 2018, 10 of which are placed among the top 400 universities worldwide. This means many universities in Russia now offer a choice between a four-year bachelor’s degree and a five-year specialist degree. Russia’s higher education system was ranked 26th  in the world, in the first edition of the  QS Higher Education System Strength Rankings.Lomonosov Moscow State University  (Lomonosov MSU) is Russia’s highest-ranked institution, topping the table of the  QS EECA University Rankings  for the third year in a row. Famed for its rapid rise in reputation, Novosibirsk State University has a fairly small student community (6,000). It’s located just outside of the city of Novosibirsk, Russia’s third most populous city after Moscow and Saint Petersburg. Whi le less internationally known than these two, Novosibirsk boasts thriving cultural and nightlife scenes, making it another attractive option for prospective students.”Saint Petersburg State University“The oldest and one of the most prestigious universities in Russia,  Saint Petersburg State University  is ranked fourth in the EECA rankings as of 2018.  Founded by Peter the Great in 1724, Saint Petersburg State University has a student population of around 30,000, of which around 3,000 are from outside Russia.  Spread throughout the city of Saint Petersburg in over 400 buildings hosting 25 faculties, Saint Petersburg State University provides students with access to the city’s great array of museums, monuments and arts venues. Dealing With Passive-Aggressive Behavior - Introvert Whisperer

Introvert Whisperer / Dealing With Passive-Aggressive Behavior - Introvert Whisperer Dealing With Passive-Aggressive Behavior I had someone ask me a great question this week. “What do you do with a passive-aggressive person that makes snotty remarks, sighs and rolls their eyes?”   I’d love to hear what your solutions are to this question. While I think most of the time you simply ignore someone who does this, you do have to think through whether or not that type of behavior should be allowed to continue. It’s not productive and as the recipient, it feels disrespectful.   It does nothing to solve problems or build a relationship.   All it does is repel you as its not comfortable being around someone who does this.   Eventually, it will negatively impact how you do your work. People that are passive-aggressive don’t feel empowered to directly confront concerns they have â€" for whatever reason.   Maybe they don’t know how to comfortably address issues they have with you or are concerned that if they do, they will damage the relationship.   The deal is, they don’t realize they are damaging the relationship by their behavior. Here are a couple of my suggestions: Act confused and ask for clarity. “I’m confused.   By your reaction, it seems something has you upset but I’m not sure I know what it is.   Could you let me know?” Be transparent and describe what is going on. “I can tell from the eye rolling you’re doing that you must disagree.   Let me know if you see issues that I may not be aware of.” Or “I doubt that your comment was designed to really solve a problem.   Do we have a problem that needs to be discussed?” Passive-aggressive behavior is a learned behavior.   That means that a person that does this sort of thing may not stop what they are doing.   I do think you train people on how you want to be treated and if you allow someone to do something repeatedly to you that goes against your values, it will continue and get worse.   They will think twice before attempting it with you again if you confront the behavior in a constructive way. No, it would be great if everyone were upbeat and happy each day you go to work, but that’s not always possible.   I hope this gives you a few ideas if or when this happens to you. The better you practice, the brighter the flame.” - B. K. S. Iyengar Yoga therapy can accompany physical therapy. (Source: stevepb)The same is true for yoga therapy which, in the long-term, strengthens the body and mind. While this discipline is great for minor health concerns, it’s also useful for more severe illnesses and conditions. With a yoga mat, severe illnesses and, in some cases, the pain associated with them, can be managed through yoga therapy. This is particularly true thanks to yoga therapy’s philosophy which can be helpful for those struggling with a severe illness. We have to stress, though, that yoga therapy can’t replace modern medicine. It cannot be used to cure cancer or Parkinson’s disease but it can be used alongside a treatment. Yoga therapy needs to complement the treatment suggested by your medical professional.Yoga therapy is also useful for pregnant women who can benefit from prenatal yoga. It can help with stress leading up to the birth and help stay in shape despite the pregnancy. If you’re suffering from a severe il lness, check with your doctor whether or not yoga therapy could help with the treatments. It might help with your recovery. Don’t hesitate to get started if you can.Managing Stress with Yoga TherapyYoga therapy is a discipline that allows you to exercise regularly and work on your mental health. Yoga therapy allows you to relax and focus on healing and it’s adapted to each patient depending on their condition or their mental or physical health. Life can be stressful but yoga and yoga therapy can help you manage it. (Source: silviarita)In our current society, it’s not uncommon to feel anxious, stressed, or overwhelmed. Yoga therapy also works on these types of concerns. You can summarise it thus:“The mind is everything. If the mind loses its liberty, you lose yours. If the mind is free, you are free too.” - RamakrishnaYoga poses allow you to focus on the present, freeing your mind from various other concerns. During a session, you can relax and think about nothing but yourself. The patient can benefit from doing this regularly.  Yoga therapy is for anyone, regardless of what they’re going through, from those wanting to stay in shape to those with severe mental or physical illnesses. If you want to find out more, consider readi ng our other articles on the topic or getting yoga therapy sessions from one of the private yoga teachers or tutors on Superprof! There are a lot of different types of yoga available and three main types of yoga tutorial available on Superprof: face-to-face, online, and group. Each type of tutorial comes with a set of pros and cons and what's right for one person may not be right for another. You need to think carefully about choosing the right tutor and the right type of private tutorial.Face-to-face tutorials are between you and your tutor; there's nobody else there. This is great if you require highly-tailored yoga therapy, for example. However, as a bespoke and tailored service, these tutorials tend to be the most costly per hour. With your tutor dedicating every minute of the session to you, they're also the most cost-effective type of tutorial.Online tutorials, while usually better for academic subjects, can be quite useful if you're on a budget. Since the tutor doesn't have to travel and can also schedule more sessions per week, they have the potential to earn more and spend less and can charge a more competitive rate for their tutorials. If you prefer a hands-on approach, these tutorials won't be for you, but if you have a decent webcam, microphone, and internet connection, you can get quality and tailored tutorials without having to break the bank. Finally, group tutorials are similar to traditional yoga therapy sessions and you won't be the only person there. With multiple attendees footing the bill, these tend to be cheaper per person per hour than the other types of tutorial but it does mean that the lessons won't be tailored for you. Since most yoga therapy is geared towards a specific condition or ailment, most of you there will have the same needs and goals. This means you can all benefit from affordable private tutoring and yoga therapy and maybe even make some new friends.Have a look around on the website for different tutors and make sure you m ake the most of the tutors that offer the first hour of tuition for free! What Subjects Are Covered in the Food Technology Curriculum

What Subjects Are Covered in the Food Technology Curriculum The Standard Course List for a Food Technology Degree ChaptersAn Outline of Courses For Year OneYear Two Curriculum ChoicesYear Three Study ProgrammePoints to Consider When Choosing ClassesToday, we start our dissertation by admitting to a bit of hubris.Universities across the UK offer food-related degrees and each of them proposes a slightly different curriculum.Besides that, the field of food science technology is so vast that we could hardly begin to know where to start describing it, let alone advocating for one course of study over all of the others. Finally, there is you: are you more interested in food technology or does food microbiology really get it for you? Do you have a soft spot for food chemistry, food preservation or do you just really want to know about human nutrition?Obviously, we couldn’t possibly list the syllabus of every single university that offers a degree in food technology; this article would be far too long! What we can do, though, is list the core subjects you will be expected to complete and also present el ectives you might choose to round out your studies. So… maybe not hubris, after all. Your Superprof stands guilty of plotting an ambitious plan to help you choose which path to follow for your undergraduate program, that’s all! It seems you are ready for your first year of study in food science and nutrition but have you considered these courses? Image by ????????? ???? from PixabayThis course list, reflecting the first year of study, apply to degrees in food science, food technology with bioprocessing, nutrition and food science, and nutrition with food consumer science. Were you angling more towards a food science with business degree, your core course list would include classes in economics, introductory courses in management and marketing, along with other courses listed above.Optional CoursesTo round out your studies, you would have a choice of electives for all of the food sciences degrees save perhaps for a degree in nutrition.Again, the elective courses available to you depend on the degree plan you choose. If you aim for a Food Science degree, you may get to select from:Introduction to NeuroscienceIntroduction to MarketingIntroduction to ManagementFundamental Concepts in Chemistry 1Economics 1Percept ionYou might wonder what a class in perception entails and how it relates to food science. The taste, smell and appearance of food is very important; usually, people will not eat something that does not appeal to them or runs contrary to their dietary norms.Haggis, that iconic Scottish dish, is a fine example of how the perception of a food can deter people from eating it.Labelling the ingredients ‘offal’ gives people a reason to turn away from the dish because, when we think of offal, it generally means 'that which is cast off'.The science behind food perception is why so many people who visit Beijing post pictures of grilled scorpions and crickets sold a food vendor stalls with expressions ranging from wonder to disgust…And most likely why food scientists would have a hard time convincing people in Britain to incorporate protein-packed insects in their diet as a substitute for meat.Do you wonder, when you train to become a food technologist, whether such subjects would be cov ered? If things get too tough in your biotechnology course, you can count on a Superprof tutor to help advance your studies! Image by Nicholas Jackson from PixabayYear Two Curriculum ChoicesIf you thought your first year at university was intense because of all the science subjects you studied, hold on to your hats because Year Two will really drill down to the smallest particles involved in food studies. For instance, if you’ve set yourself on the food scientist degree path, you will study:microbiological hazards in foodthe microbiology of food preservation and spoilagebiochemistry and enzymologythe composition and properties of foodsindustrial training preparationfood processingfundamentals of human nutritionAs you can surely see by the list of core courses, the Year Two food science trainee will discover a full spectrum of food-related topics from microorganisms that impact food to how food is processed, both in a manufacturing plant and in our bodies.Just as in Year One, the food tech nology student’s mandatory courses and electives aren’t quite so ominous-sounding.For example, rather than studying enzymology, you may instead choose process engineering principles, an eye-opening course that will better prepare you for working in a food processing plant. Also, your optional courses are a bit more diverse; you may, for example, study sports and exercise nutrition or learn about food choice and regulation. As we understand it, that last is about consumers choosing foods and regulating their food intake, not about government standards regarding food.Year Three Study ProgrammeWould you be relieved to know that, by the time you enter your third year of study to become a food technologist, most of the difficult subjects will be behind you?In your last year of study as an undergraduate, your work will become more cerebral and reflective, pondering such topics as:Quality assurance and food safetyaspects of food chemistryresearch methods for nutritional and food science sproduct developmentDiet and diseasesensory evaluation of foodOf these, the last one seems most fascinating! As you’ll remember, in Year One, you will study food perception â€" a captivating subject in itself. In your last year, you will delve deeper, exploring how our senses make snap decisions about the foods we eat. When thinking about this topic, I can think of no better food to evaluate than ‘stinky tofu’, a dish found primarily in China and Taiwan. It is so pungent you can smell it from blocks away and woe to you if someone happens to walk past with a bowl of it; its less-than-fragrant bouquet tends to linger long after the offending tofu is gone.Even Andrew Zimmern, the culinary expert that travels the world sampling all manner of strange foods for his Bizarre Foods programme declared he couldn’t eat stinky tofu!Again this year, you will have a bevvy of subjects to choose from that will round out your undergraduate studies; consumer attitudes towards food quality being e specially pertinent just now.Have you seen the news recently? In the US, there is currently an expanded recall on romaine lettuce from a particular region in California; it is thought to be contaminated with a strain of E-coli.Thanks to modern food transportation systems, that lettuce has made its way across the country and has further been used in food processing plants to make ready-to-eat salads and sushi.Meanwhile, here in the UK, our Foods Standards Agency has listed recalls on assorted products due to inaccurate labelling â€" omitting potential allergens from the ingredients list, and Darwin’s Dairy recalled its products because they discovered a breakdown in their pasteurising process. If public health and safety are important to you, you may enjoy taking a course in customer’s attitudes toward food quality or a food and toxicology elective in your final year.Your turn to talk: what is your understanding of a food technologist’s job? Although the science research facilities and other teaching facilities are important, your curriculum should bear more weight when considering a school Image by Nikolay Georgiev from PixabayPoints to Consider When Choosing ClassesThe schools we investigated all had comprehensive food technologist study programs but each one made it clear that, due to the impact on public health and safety, students who graduate from their schools are encouraged to seek an apprenticeship with a food concern rather than full-time employment.Unlike many professions, a graduate with a food technologist degree will not be hired outright for a position of responsibility. That being the case, you may consider spending an extra year as an undergraduate, in a work-study programme. Several universities around the UK offer such programmes but you have to enquire about them and sign up.If a Bachelor’s degree is all you have time and energy for (and there is nothing wrong with that), such a work-study plan would present you with career opportunities you might not otherwise have available to you. However, if you intend to move on to a graduate program, consider the fact that your undergraduate electives take on additional weight. For instance, if you plan on specialising in Food Technology as a graduate student, selecting lifestyle and nutrition courses as your electives would probably not serve you well even though they would be quite interesting. As a student of food science and technology, you will have a lot to consider, from which branch of the discipline you would most like to make your mark to which courses will satisfy your intellectual curiosity while bringing you closer to your dream job.Hopefully, we helped inform you a bit about the choices you’re facing. Now read all about food science technology…
